Esa Holopainen – Silver Lake

Nuclear Blast already released

Fans of the band Amorphis should immediately be able to identify Esa Holopainen … and maybe many of those fans were curious about his solo album, produced by Nino Laurenne in the famous Sonic Pump Studio, mastered by Svante Forsbäck (Rammstein, Volbeat, The Rasmus). All songs that don’t really fit Amorphis – does this mean it’s Dubstep, Rap, free jazz? Well, not quite, I haven’t noticed blatant differences, the tendency towards this “Kalevala sound” remains dominant on “Silver Lake” too. There’s a bit more hard rock, pop, trance psychedelic and radio play when compared with the main band. Esa’s feeling for catchy epic melodies makes the song material stand out from the typical radio stuff anyway. In addition, vocal artists like Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering, VUUR), Björn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork), Einar Solberg (Leprous) and Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) are involved in this project. One of the most persistent ear candy tracks is Storm (feat. Håkan Hemlin) and yes, Tomi Joutsen also contributes to a song. So even people who don’t like Amorphis (are there any?) can buy this album without hesitation.
