Red Storm: Alert

Release: 8.4.2016 Label: Echozone

Red Storm is the new project of Desdemona singer, Agnieszka Lesna. If you ask me, there isn’t much difference between Desdemona’s music style and Red Storm. Perhaps, the latter is a bit more on the electronic side. This comes as no surprise if you know that they worked together with DJ BACTEE from the Tresor Club in Berlin. The band’s electro rock is kept pretty simple, there isn’t much of a scaffold of melodies and beats, which they put together, and also the lyrics are only average. Basically, if you read the title, you know what the song is about. Hence, there are songs revolving around the topics “Love is Pain”; “Famous” and “The One”. Here and there, the songs do have a few good moments but they are over before you can start to enjoy them. It’s thus very difficult to not get bored after listening to the songs a few times. This is something the band still needs to work on. But there are some good beats, which make you want to dance to immediately, and some lyrics that make you want to sing along, even though it’s only because they are so easy to remember. All in all, the album is alright, it just lacks a few surprises. Why not do a song in Polish? Two of the better tracks are “Famous” and “The One” but they could also be played in a dance club – they don’t have much to do with rock anymore, I think. Red Storm’s first record certainly isn’t bad but there’s still some room for improvement.
