Deadpool

What a nice Valentine date, with a dude named Wade Wilson, pretty funny guy. Better don’t expect red roses – there’s lots of red, though, like blood or spandex suit – difficult to say whether  he’s looking sexier with or without it … and u better don’t mind body parts flying around…
Just the tongue-in-cheek opening sequence which left me open mouthed –  well, into a fourth of the movie it turns out that maybe they should have saved some of Wade’s alias Deadpool’s antics and special effects for later. At some point it feels like dragging on, until the story manages to gain momentum again … Although Deadpool is a strong anarchistic character to keep you interested, he is simply at his best when totally unpredictable, and there was still too much in the movie falling into a certain pattern of (Hollywood) story telling.
Still, if you love anti-heroes, this is the one for you. I cannot even begin how much of pop culture is made fun of, how many rules (“the fourth wall”) are broken. Although the X-men connection is brought in, there is no bigger cause that Deadpool fights for, his goals are simple and straightforward (revenge, kill all people who stand in your way to get it). You can feel throughout the film how much fun Ryan Reynolds had, how much he  identifies with the character – you even wonder how much of Deadpool leaked into the actor’s every-day-life , or vice versa (besides the costume Reynolds – errr – simply kept as a souvenir…)
Anyway, even if you don’t know anything about the comic books or the X-men, you will spend 108 min with many giggles and laughs, feeling well entertained afterwards – isn’t that much more than other Valentine dates could offer?
PS: Yes, Stan Lee has a nice cameo here, too
