A Dark Halo – Omnibus One
Self-Released, 14 July 2023
Founded by Austin, TX, by Dave Lowmiller and Christopher M. Jones in 2005, A DARK HALO (ADH) is only now releasing their second long player after a string of single releases. The band name is derived from the cosmological concept of “dark matter halos” and serves as a metaphor to remind us that much of the most important information in our universe still remains unseen.
The style can be described as Melo Death mixed with Industrial Metal, or in other words Cyber Metal with a progressive edge, featuring male clear and growl vocals plus the occasional female vocals, such as guest vocalists Kathleen Cylkowski (on Starfall) Anna Hel (on Vector Unknown). The songs are more focused on epic melodies and atmosphere than blast beats, plus the dance factor due to the industrial sound. The choruses have the ear candy appeal of pop music. Sometimes it’s just a bit too epic for me and I would have enjoyed a bit more of a heavy punch.
Nevertheless, the CD is absolutely recommendable and if you like Pain, Bloodred Hourglass or Machine Supremacy, you can’t go wrong here.
Recommended songs: Thin Be The Veil, Flame Betied, I, Revenant, It Never Sleeps
