Aeolian – Silent Witness
Label: Snow Wave Records release: 12 September 2018
German language speakers when hearing “Mallorca” definitely won’t think about Metal music – actually quite the opposite… One more reason to recommend the band Aeolian and their debut album Silent Witness – simply great stuff. Melodic Death / Thrash Metal with the intensity of Primordial, a certain Blackmetallic bombast quality and the gift to still sound melodic despite this brutality – which is something the Finns have made their trademark. A few excursions into the domain of Prog – which could please Ne Obliviscaris fans – and some local Folklore as extra spicing is also added to the mix. Do I really need to say more?
Actually, I could add that the album is inspired by the beautiful nature of their home island, and their lyrics address the fears of conserving natural diversity and the threat humans as a species pose to the habitat. The name Silent Witness takes its meaning from how nature cannot speak for itself. Every song on this album has been written from the point of view of nature. Hence environmentally oriented Melodic Death Metal, produced by Miguel A. Riutort (The Unity, Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Hirax), cover artwork by Kilian Eng (Concept artist for Disney, HBO, Marvel, Red Bull, Sony, The New York Times etc.)
Sound bite – a good example what the album has to offer and a fave of mine: Going to Extinction.
