Justice League

PG-13, 2h, release 17 November 2017 (USA)  – SPOILER FREE!

Why do adults love to watch superhero movies too? Well, just take a look at the daily news and you know why people beyond their teens really want to see the good guys/girls, for a change, teaming up and forming a Justice League to fight the evil in this world …

And what a team, WOW, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) or Aquaman (Jason Momoa) alone should make you watch this movie. Both indeed live up to all expectations, by the way… Who has had some objectives towards Henry Cavill as Superman or Ben Affleck as Batman before, should be finally convinced by this movie. One of the reasons – this movie as a much lighter air around it than the sinister epos Batman vs. Superman. And it is not only Ezra Miller/Flash giving the Justice League some more comic relief… Ezra even manages to be nerdier, more awkward and more likeable than the Flash/Barry Allen TV version (which I have to recommend here as well). In case you have seen Ezra in “We Need to Talk About Kevin”, you might recall he can be totally – err – different, too … Only Cyborg (Ray Fisher) was brand new to me, but he also delivers a convincing performance as someone facing the man or machine conflict.

As I don’t want to reveal too much of the story, just this bit: In order to face an immense threat, Batman is forced to assemble a team, but not all of the chosen are willing to join …

Director Zak Snyder definitely managed to create an original story (with the screenwriters Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon) and also continue previous single adventures of the characters who are involved – without copying The Avengers or Suicide Squad. In order to enjoy the Justice League you don’t need to have watched the adventures of  Wonder Woman, Superman or Batman before, but it would be helpful to understand several references and gags.

Summing up, those 2h of super hero/heroine adventure feel way too short, I would have enjoyed to spend more time with e.g. Aquaman or Flash. I am looking forward to more Justice League action, and also movies dedicated to Cyborg, Flash etc – and some of them are already in the making….
