Albez Duz – Wings Of Tzinacan
Listenable Records / Earsplit, 28.10.2016
One of those records that have you go “woooooow” after a few notes – and indeed, the promises are not only kept in place, it even gets better. A massive Doom attack, where influences of Black Sabbath are obvious, yet this is far from being a copy, integrating elements of Psychedelic / Prog / Black Metal, coming with evil growls and even more evil hooks. The voice is almost as deep as Type-O Mr. Steele’s, plus a vibrato we know from Candlemass classis.
Hence the “woooooow”… Another surprise, this band does not hail from the mines of Moria, but from Germany… but maybe that’s not really important.
The focus remains on Doom – with one exception, Innocent Gate has much more of a Power Ballad – yet there is plenty of variaton, lots of genres appear only in the first song The Uprising and later Sacred Flame even features a bit of Jazz.
Although Doom is not quite my favourite genre, I have to admit that this one will be listened to quite a bit – well, maybe not immediately before going to sleep, because of this sinister track Death Whistle …
