Magnuson – Discordia
Macaroni Penguin Music release October 21, 2016
A multi-instrumental duo ”that makes as much sound with two people as possible”, and from L.A. – you might expect something like Soft-Pop, or Country-style, or maybe even something slightly weird, like The White Strypes – and you might be surprised as it is actually neither – or maybe all of that, with a particular twist. Greg Magnuson (drums, guitars, vocals) and Kyrsten Magnuson (guitars, drums, vocals) mention Muse, Agent Fresco, Porcupine Tree, Mew, Death From Above 1979, Meshuggah, Kent and The Smiths as their influences. I would mention the Finns Kingston Wall or Von Hertzen Brothers as one of the possible references too. Well, this is one of those albums that can be put on an endless loop in your player – it is highly entertaining, spirits uplifting, and you might find yourself humming along to the catchy parts of those Prog-Rock-slightly-Pop songs. Difficult to highlight one or a few, as they are all highly appealing – just check out the band website and give this awesome duo Magnuson a try!
