Forsaken Memoriam – Fresh Act November 2016

Hello guys, how are you doing? Thank you for your time. First of all, please introduce the band, where are you from and who are the members?

Hello Stalkers, and thank you for your time as well. The band is based in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, and is composed of myself on the bass (Skandal), Kosmo & Vlasis on the guitars, Adonald on Vocals, and Stelio on the drums.

How would you describe the music that you are playing?

If I had to pick a few adjectives, they’d be groovy (Generic, I know. Sue me), punchy, with touches of aggressive. So far we’ve avoided concluding to a characterization as the band is still quite new. The description will form on its own in time.

Why did you choose the name Forsaken Memoriam for the band?

I believe the choice behind the name came from the name itself being written on a high school notebook our singer dug up a few weeks prior to naming the band. He liked it, the guys who were in the band at the time liked it, so I guess we’re Forsaken Memoriam for life now, haha.

How is the song writing process working in the band? Do you write everything together or just one of you alone?

There’s no standard process set as of yet. Sometimes we do things as a group, sometimes someone pulls an entire piece out of themselves and just present it to the rest. I believe everyone ads signature touches here and there though.

You released your debut album in May but is it right that one can only buy it as a limited edition vinyl? Or do you also sell it on CD & Download? Why did you choose the vinyl release?

At the moment, the CDs are out of stock, but if someone wants to invest in our music they can always download it from our bandcamp page, or order one of the few vinyl copies left. Vinyl is popular again, and I can see why. It’s multidimensional. You can experience it in more than one way if you know what I mean. The texture of the disk, the artwork, even the smell, they are all different from a regular CD, let alone the digital format. In a day and age where so many everyday products have been digitized, I can totally understand people who feel the need to hold on to something.

Which song of the album are you most proud of and why?

At this point I should mention that I did not record the bass for this record as I was not a member at the time, but I did contribute to the completion of a song vocally. It’s called “Forsaken Memories” and it’s quite a hit if you ask me. The lyrics, the vocal lines, the riffs… It’s an easy pick hands down.

There are not too many Rock/ Metal Bands from Greece, how is the scene there? Is it difficult to get the possibility to play gigs?

From my experience, I’ve never been faced with the difficulty to put on a show. How difficult is difficult really? If there’s will, there’s a way. I just arrived back home after a 2 week tour in Greece with my UK-based band, Skandal. I assure you there’s plenty of bands based in Greece, and a lot more in proportion to other European countries which are more than double the size of Greece. Rock and Metal are not a tradition, though, so I do not expect them to become the mainstream standard. I enjoy them both as they are right now. In the underground.

You are hailing from Heraklion, Greece. If one of our readers comes to visit your city, what are the Top 5 spots for Rock/ Metal heads to check out there?

There’s the Rock n Rolling Stone, Route 66, and Jailhouse Rock, if you want to have a drink under the influence of some heavy tunes. But if you somehow made it all the way to Crete, go enjoy a beach. There’s plenty all around the island. Some of the most beautiful you’ll ever see probably.

Which band would you totally enjoy touring with?

I think this question call for a unanimous “Mastodon”. Our common sticky jam.

What do you want to reach with your band in the near future?

A second album, one that will have us all satisfied and leave you with a sweet taste in your mouth. And touring of course.

Thank you very much for your time and all the best for the future!

Thank you too. Read Stalker, kids. Auf Wiedersehen.
