Tornado – Commitment To Excellence
Label: Extreme Metal Music VÖ: 31 August 2018
An American/Finnish Thrashband produced by Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy/Pain)? Could this possibly go wrong? Of course not. The third release of TORNADO named Commitment To Excellence keep all the promises that band name and CD title imply. Unleashed mayhem, and fans of Slayer, Annihilator, Overkill, Testament or Megadeth surely cry tears of joy. And in case the band is reducing the full speed attack, you’ll receive real sick compositions and sounds, e.g. the instrumental Through Difficulties to Victory.
Those brutal riffs work as nicely as the diligent work on details, when guitars or drums are concerned. And when singer Superstar Joey Severance is backed up by some guest growls (e.g. Niko Kalliojärvi/ex-Amoral), I like it even better. Because Joey’s style which works brilliantly in songs like Supremacy sounds a bit one-dimensional sometimes (The Flight Of Yuri Gagarin).
For Thrash fans it’s probably a must-have anyway – just look at the list who appears on the album: Nile’s Karl Sanders, Immolation’s Ross Dolan and Pro-Pain’s Adam Phillips, as well as Glen Drover (former Megadeth member). Produced by Ben Varon (ex-Amoral/Oceanhoarse), mixed/mastered and engineered by AK, Chris Paccou (FOH Engineer of Slayer).
Sound bite recommendations: Endless Forms of Torment, Chaos among the Ruins
