Brainstorm – Midnight Ghost
Label: AFM Records Playing Time: 52 min Release : 28th September 2018
Brainstorm belong to the few constant highlights in the German Metal scene. For 20 years they have been releasing albums and there is no end in sight. The most impressive fact is that they have not made any weak album yet although they normally follow a two-year release rhythm. Such great work only a few bands can keep up with. Therefore after „Scary Creatures“ (2016) it is time for a new one. Et voila:
Midnight Ghost contains the typical band trademarks. Mid tempo, uptempo and great melodies. Especially the latter characterize most of the songs. Give a try to ‚Devil’s Eye‘, ‚Revealing The Darkness‘ or the epic ‚Jeanne Boulet (1764)‘. All great stuff with great hook lines. There are also less distinguished songs, but there is actually no real creeper. And it is also nice to hear a dynamic balance. Besides the typical headbanger stuff you will find some more quiet moments in ‚Ravenous Minds‘ , the above mentioned ‚Jeanne Boulet (1764)‘ and the final ‚The Path‘. Those songs give all those much faster parts more air to breathe. So: Music? Great, check! Hook lines? Great, check! Dynamics? Great, check, too! Therefore I can recommend the 12th Brainstorm studio album to every fan of melodic German steel.
