Mission: Impossible – Fallout
PG-13 | 2h 27min | 27 July 2018
No need to mention that a few hours in a nicely climatized movie theater are very appealing in this heat wave… and even more fun when there’s a lot of action on the screen, even when you are not such a big Tom Cruise fan. First of all, the Mission: Impossible series has always offered a fantastic cast; then there are those absolutely hilarious and weird stories with lots of plot twists and breath-taking action – and finally there’s this tongue-in-cheek attitude. The 6th movie in the series does not only contain exactly that to keep up with the predecessors, it even surpasses a few regarding quality and is definitely one of the best of the whole series.
The story in a nutshell: After a mission goes wrong, agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is forced to team up with August Walker (Henry Cavill) in order to track down a new nuclear threat to the world. They are supported by their old associates, IMF boss Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) as well as MI6-agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) because once again it’s a race against time to save the world …
Director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie (he also wrote “The usual suspects”) had directed Cruise before in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Jack Reacher, hence his was to keep his action protagonist busy and still somewhat believable seems effortless. Because here he has tough competition with the charismatic “Superman” Henry Cavill who cannot even be disfigured by an ugly beard… Ethan and his Team master one hilariously dangerous situation after the next with even more hilarious and often dangerous solutions. Well, that’s something we know from James Bond or the Bourne series too – and if you like those, you cannot possibly skip this movie! And what’s more fun than mind-boggling action? Hey, it’s called “Mission Impossible” – not “Mission Plausible” …
Moreover, I can promise that some action scenes will – literally – take your breath away, or even give you a slight heart attack; no matter how many action- and-chase-scenes you have seen before in other movies… especially when watching the 3D version… Summing up, it’s a very entertaining visual roller-coaster ride!
