Dethonator – Dethonator
Killer Metal Records release 15 October 2016
Originally forged in the East Midlands of England, now established in London, this four-piece band has been around for a decade, which is probably the reason they reissue their – no longer available – self titled first album, remixed and partially re-recorded by the current line-up. For me something new anyway… And Wreckers takes off with Blastbeats – Black Metal? Nope, it rather reminds me of Linkin Park first, Metalcore or Extreme Metal US style, not bad – clean vocals and a dose of growls. A very skilled band, and the songs work nicely, but I am not fully convinced, and I almost give up when Many have Fallen feature a tune I find a bit too simplistic – but then: Shadows – fantastic groove for head banging in between, and a memorable chorus. Then the title track – fantastic, catching your attention immediately, it seems you can instantly sing along – extremely well done! And also the following tracks appeal a bit more to me than the first 4 – perhaps because they rather tend to a classical Metal sound, with a truly epic In The Place Of The Skull concluding the album. Nothing here sounds “aged”, therefore an overall good impression – and we can be looking forward to the band’s new material.
