Tom Ricci – Escape Into Life

Label: Self Released; Release: 12/05/2016

Straight away this album takes me back to the 90’s, one of my favourite musical decades, with a sharp burst of indie-rock sounding melody and guitar riffs. It’s probably true to say that this album is as retro a sound as I’ve heard recently, but that really does work here. Strong vocals, great hooks and some great harmonies make this a great summer album, perfect for driving out to summer cabins and sitting in the sun.

Don’t Give Up On Yourself is the darkest track on the album and deserves a special mention. It starts with minors and angst and just as it seems it is hitting a happy high its bleakness and angst come back at you like a sledgehammer. Perfect.

Standout track – Gave It All To You is a driving, pop-rock track that would fit perfectly into any playlist you have this summer.
