Aeternitas – Haunted Minds
Wormholedeath / The Orchard / Aural Music Group release: Nov 20, 2020
Founded in 1999 by Anja and Alex Hunzinger, AETERNITAS have released five albums since 2000, combining a variety of different styles, from classical to electronic and (gothic) metal elements, plus theatrical influences. The concept of stage realization was developed for spectators to enjoy a theatrical live show and paved the way for the subsequent development of concept albums. Their style became modern symphonic metal with complex orchestral arrangements, grooving rock parts and catchy melodies with male and female singers. The band toured in 2019 and 2020 with the Japanese power metal band JUPITER and the Finnish monsters LORDI.
The 6th album provides Epic Symphonic Metal with a touch of Speed / Thrash / Pagan. Therefore rather think of Ensiferum or Sonata Arctica than of Nightwish and also Therion come to mind. The theater element also comes across well, you have the impression of listening to a rock opera or a metal musical. The choruses are catchy and there are a number of highlights, besides the opening “Destiny” for example “The Unforgivable Sin”, “Another Day”, “The Beautiful” and the final title track. For my taste, only the keyboard could have been less dominant, soundwise I had favored more powerful guitars and drums. Sometimes the voice sound quality sounds a bit too “dry” to me – otherwise I have nothing to complain about. For genre fans probably a must anyway, all the other metalheads should at least check them out!
