Torian – God Of Storms
Label: Ram It Down release: Dec 2018
Just gave one track a try, because Powermetal does not really belong to my top favorite genres. But what I heard was so fantastic that I ended up to listen to the whole album. God Of Storms is the fourth longplayer of this Band from Paderborn, Germany, which has been around since 2002. They played live with Sabaton, Dragonforce, Orden Ogan, Overkill, Annihilator and Vicious Rumors, and it seems some of that got worked into their new album. And also their new producer Seeb Levermann (Orden Ogan, Rhapsody Of Fire, Brainstorm) who came on board with the 2016 EP „Phantoms Of The Past“, had surely some hand in it too.
Power Metal mixed with Pagan Metal and even Thrash Metal sometimes, musically sophisticated, balanced and still there’s a lot of variety. Symphonic-epic, hymnic and catchy – there’s no track that misses the mark. Every song pure ear candy, and no Kitsch whatsoever – which is so difficult especially in the Power Metal genre. Torian surely make it to international fame with this album. Singer Mark Hohlweck has this variable appealing voice that doesn’t go too high into the for me painful screeching ranges… I can easily imagine this band on tour with Ensiferum, Hammerfall or the latest Finnish Stars in Power Metal heaven, Beast in Black. Every Power-Pagan-Metalhead has to check out this band and this album.
