Mind’s Doors – The Edge of The World

Label: Wormholedeath – release: Dec 2018

Mind’s Doors are a Progressive Rock Band from Spain, founded in 2005 in Alicante, who released their debut “Capital Sins” in 2008. César Alcaraz (vocals), Alberto Abeledo (Guitars) and Jose Francisco Bernabeu (Drums) remain from the original line-up. The founding members Juan Pérez (Keyboards) and Julio Garcia (Bass) had been replaced by Marcos Beviá and Eloy Romero. The Edge of The World is the third release of the band and just like the previous album “Rusted World” 2015 following a concept. The latter focused on a story a la Romeo and Juliet, here the basis is a story that actually happened.

The record was mastered at the Finnvox-Studio in Helsinki, Finland, by Mika Jussila who had worked for e.g. Him, Stratovarius or Nightwish.
Therefore it’s no surprise that this album turns out to be very appealing. A wide range of influences, from 70s Prog-Rock, Pop, Metal and Jazz, can be noticed but it fits together as a nice coherent piece of art, mostly remaining in the realm of Rock-Hardrock – but once in a while there’s a crossover to Pop. It reminds me a bit of classic SAGA but also has some Dream Theater appeal. I could not notice a particular “hit song”, yet the album as such is simply ear candy. Check it out!
