New Age – New Age
Label: Sliptrick records – Release December 2018
The Australians New Age caught my eye because of those key words “Hardrock” and “veterans”. And there are so many cool and unique bands coming from Australia, besides the electricity icons AC/DC , let’s mention Ne Obliviscaris as an example…
Therefore I was a bit surprised that I did not get to hear Hardrock, or well, not what I think of when I hear the definition; “Hardrock”: Rather simple song structures, no “filligrane decorative material” so to say, straight forward rocking songs I would rather define as Proto-Punk / Alternative / Garage-Rock. Nothing like those epic sounds like Uriah Heep, no sophisticated guitar soli as in Led Zep or Deep P – it’s much more like “Let’s Go”-Ramones, taking no prisoners, and maybe sometimes there’s a touch of Glamrock-Pop. Moreover, it’s so raw and earth-bound it even sounds like being recorded live in a garage… Which was not the case, all songs written by Graham Schiavello & Carey Hesketh, copyright APRA Australia, were recorded and mixed by Josh Richards in Sound system studios, Sunbury Victoria Australia.
Admittedly, at first I did not know what to think of it, but it took just 2-3 songs and I found myself rocking along – and then there’s this pure ear candy Take It Away … recommended to all of you who fall for pure Rock’n’Roll with an 80s spirit.
New Age are:
Carey Hesketh – Bass Guitar/Vocals | Graham Schiavello – Lead & Rhythm Guitar/Vocals | Nick James – Drums
