Last Union – Twelve
Label: Rock Of Angels Records Playing Time: 55 Min Release: 21st December 2018
Last Union were founded in 2007 by vocalist Elisa Scarpeccio and guitarist Cristiano Tiberi. After they had played for a while with Italian guest musicians, they’ve finally found some well-known new band mates: Uli Kusch (drums, ex-Helloween and ex-Masterplan) and Mike LePond (bass, Symphony X) joined the band. In addition there is James LaBrie of Dream Theater, who conducted vocals for a couple of tracks.
In terms of music, the band is playing a mixture of Hard Rock and melodic Metal. According to the promo information, the band feels very comfortable with Progressive Metal (no wonder, if you think of the musicians involved). But in fact, “Twelve” has nothing in common with progressive music.
If you are listening to “Twelve” it become obvious that there are no beginners at work. There is no crap and the production, done by Jens Bogren (Kreator, Opeth and many more), is powerful, but also clear. Yet on the other hand I have to say that there are no real highlights on “Twelve”. ‘President Evil’ and ‘Taken’, both performed by James LaBrie, and also ‘Ghostwriter’ and ‘Limousine’, both are placed short before the end, are well done. But they are also not as catchy as they should be. So, at the end of the day, “Twelve” is nice for your next Rock party, but it is not the next big thing.
