Sahon – Chanting for the Fallen
Label: Transcending Obscurity Records – released already
Don’t get fooled by this cute album cover – you’re going to get blown away by brutal Thrash, channelling the likes of Slayer or Exodus, yet still offering melodious and catchy guitar licks in the style of Testament. The 5th of this Southern Korean Trio (Vox&Bass Yong Ho, Guitar Chang Myung, Drums Kyung hong) has indeed a lot to offer. A truly merciless piece of aggressive Metal with some exotic appeal and thus very entertaining. And each track is a challenge for your neck muscles. Only Condemnation in between might give you some rest as it rather focuses on groove than on speed.
Born to lose, live to Win seems – in comparison – rather on the slower classic Metal groove side. And it sounds a bit like a “sequel” to Motörhead’s Ace of Spades, the Thrash version of the famous bass line and guessing the topic according to the title of the song. As all lyrics are in Korean language, I cannot say much about those. But honestly, does anybody really understand all those Death-Metal-Band growl lyrics anyway? Towards the end the band offers some weird sound bites to Joy of Hatred and sum up their release with the neck-breaking You Shall Pay. Brutal but a lot of fun!
