Scenario II – A New Dawn

Label: Hysteria Records   Playing Time: 47 Min    Release: 17th February 2017

Scenario II are a band from Eindhoven / Netherlands, which could be familiar to some headbangers already as they have supported genre giants like Volbeat, Dark Tranquillity and Testament. Those who do not know them yet could imagine their sound as a dark version of older reincarnations of In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. Hard and fast riffs are the basis, enriched by atmospheric keys and blasting drums. The vocals are basically growls only, yet contrasted by a sweet female voice on several tracks.

The start of “A New Dawn”, namely the title track and ‘Supremacy’, is very well done. But afterwards the quality is declining slowly. ‘Awake’ and the acoustic instrumental ‘The Promised Way’ are still ok, but the following 5 songs are more or less pretty unspectacular. At the finale, Scenario II reinterpret the very old In Flames track ‘Stand Ablaze’, quite a nice and well-done cover version.

A short statement to the sound: it is overall quite powerful but also transparent. However, very often the keys are too dominant and the guitars sound a bit too creaky.
