Flotsam & Jetsam – Flotsam & Jetsam
Label: AFM Records VÖ: May 2016
Do I really have to introduce this band? More than 30 years of band history, and they fill the dozen of releases with this album. Back then in the 1980 their mix of brutal Thrash, melodies and awesome singing set a mark, and the band roamed with the Big Four from Bay Area. Since than a lot of water had flown into this Bay and the band had their ups and downs. This album proves that those guys – not a full original but a high quality classic line-up – have not lost any of their energy and their song writing talent. F&J sound fresh, fit, aggressive and exciting – and I am sure they will please old fans and win many new ones.
There’s not just Old School Thrash bashing – almost every track offers a special surprise. The biggest for me was Iron Maiden – obviously a nod to the band with this name too… and F&J make themselves sound more like Iron Maiden than the band itself. Well, at least no vocal chords are raped here (what I don’t get is why it’s happening at all, I think Mr. Dickinson sounds even much better in a lower register …)
What to say. There’s no weak song on this album, pure ear candy, Creeper – great chorus, Monkey Wrench – simply fantastic, therefore I can only recommend to check this band out live when they hit European stages in September and October when touring with Destruction.
Members: Eric ‘AK’ Knutson – vocals, Steve Conley – guitar, Michael Gilbert – guitar, Jason Bittner – drums, Michael Spencer – bass
