Sortilège – Apocalypso
Label: Season of Mist Release: 3 March 2023
The French kings of Heavy Metal have left a very good impression on me since “back then” (errr… let’s leave this here without an exact date…). They made a comeback in 2021, with a renewed line-up around Christian « Zouille » Augustin its lead singer. After a long period of 18 months and a lot of hard work, the band is proud to present its new album ‘Apocalypso’, composed entirely with new songs since its new line-up.
And WOW – this is what I call an excellent comeback. You’ll get some Speed-Metal-ish powerful opener Poseidon, some Prog vibes (Attila), epic-symphonic tracks like “Derrière les portes de Babylone (feat Myrath)” and what I’d call Metal ballads like the title track. This album was created with the idea of keeping the band’s DNA while adding some modernity to it – mission accomplished, I’d say. And I’m deeply impressed by pretty much all the songs – it’s just those sorta-ballads I still (since “back then”) cannot quite digest. Nevertheless, a full-heartedly recommendation and all those who like Iron Maiden, Accept, Metal Church, Savatage, Queensryche & Co, should definitely check out this album.
