Fireforce – Rage of War

Label: ROAR!  Playing Time: 60 Min  Release: 15th January 2021

Fireforce are a Belgian veteran Heavy Metal band. Although “Rage Of War” is already their 4th album, they have not made a name abroad yet. When listening to “Rage Of War” for the first time, I thought of an US Metal band trying to play NWoBHM style Heavy Metal. I was actually totally wrong, but it shows that band sounds international and timeless.

Not only the sound, also the songwriting has international standard. All of the songs are catchy, especially the choruses and the effective lead guitars are working very well. Highlights on the album are ‘Ram It’, ‘Firepanzer’, ‘108-118’ and ‘Army Of Ghosts’. Only ‘Running’ and the two bonus tracks ‘Blood Judge’ and ‘Tale Of The Dessert King’ are more or less obsolete.

What is Fircefore missing to become an act of international range? Besides more presence on European stages (after the CoViD pandemic, of course) actually not much. The biggest field is actually vocalist Matt Asselbergh. Although his raw vocals fit perfectly to the sound of the band, he is lacking charisma compared with other international level vocalists. Hopefully there will be improvement  with more live activity.
