Babylonfall – Collapse
Inverse Records release: April 24th 2020
Finland seems to be THE nation for Melodic Death Metal and Babylonfall is another act in this genre that a fan simply has to know.
A bit of Children of Bodom, a bit of Before The Dawn, a bit of Soilwork, a bit of Insomnium, plus some more ingredients like -Core, Post-Metal, Prog – this alone should make you curious about this debut album. The songs offer a variety of styles and gimmicks without an annoying over-complexity, and somehow manage to sound catchy and even epic (Blood Will Be My Crown or Stars and Constellations, see also clip below). Lyrical themes of the album deal with “collapsing” on a personal and societal level. Which means it’s like a comment on the current situation – quite unplanned, as the songs were recorded and mixed in late 2018 and early 2019 at Deep Noise Studios in Kouvola, Finland, by Saku Moilanen. Mastering was done at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden by Tony Lindgren. The cover art was done by Finnish artist Petri Lampela.
