Semblant – Obscura

Label: Frontiers Records   Release: 06.03.2020

Frontier Records deliver a series of releases no-one would have expected of them. More Metal is the new motto and I hope it will pay off for the Label, as I haven’t had any nicer cooperation than with Frontiers.

New in the artist rooster is the Brasilian band Semblant, who release their new album “Obscura” via Frontiers. The band hailing from Curitiba has already been  active since 2006 but had to get over a few Line-up changes and were finally getting successful when a female singer joined the band, to support Sergio Mazul, who now mainly takes care of the growls. I am positively surprised by the voice of Mizuho Lin, I expected a rather high, thin female voice but no, this girl has a lot of power. Nice sound, ok there could be a bit more dirt here and there, but that’s my personal taste. The music is a co-production by guitarist Juliano Ribeiro, Bassist Johann Piper, Keyboarder J. Augusto and drummer Thor Sikara. The mix of clean and growl vocals is the perfect choice and creates a lot of atmosphere. With great compositions and good lyrics, Semblant are just the perfect choice for the Frontiers rooster. The two voices sound in perfect harmony with each other and also the music is perfectly combined with the vocals – the harmonizing is complete.  The eleven-track record offers a variety of songs that you enjoy  listening to more than once. The Brazilians will be on European Headliner tour in September, in case COVID-19 still allows it, check them out.
