Vesperith – Vesperith

Svart Records Release: 22 November 2019

Antidote for cheesy X-mas-music needed? The Finnish female experimental Black Metal solo artist Sariina Tani alias Vesperith puts you immediately into a meditative sinister mood. The debut was co-produced by Oranssi Pazuzu mainman Jun-His. Vesperith explains the philosophy of the debut album as “a pilgrimage to the abyss. For many, shadows, darkness, emptiness or void are almost stigmatized as evil, bad or scary but I see almost heartbreaking beauty, light and infinity there.”

the majority of the songs sound like the soundscape of a fantasy-horror movie, synth-noise with some Folk-touch crowned by an angelic female voice. A track like Valohämärä rather channels Free Jazz than Black Metal… I like the fact that Black Metal part is rare, but when there are aggressive guitars, blast beats and growls, they remain – literally – too much in the background. As a contrast I had prefer brain-melting BM blasts – and a track like Quintessence provides such nice contrasts. Without the occasional punch-in-the-face the long poetic elegic parts appear to be a bit too long and poetic…
Yet everybody who likes Myrkur should check this one out.
