Mystic Prophecy – Monuments Uncovered

Label: Massacre Records  Playing Time: 41 Min  Release: 12th January 2018

Mystic Prophecy have already numerous releases in their band history, but until now they have rarely offere cover songs. This is being changed right now with this cover album. When taking a look on the tracklist, it becomes obvious that this band did not choose the typical songs from bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Slayer. Instead they chose total non-metal songs from artists like Elton John, Donna Summer and T.Rex. Only Lenny Kravitz and Monster Magnet could be part in the one or the other Metal collection.

But how do these pop songs fit into a Heavy Metal dress? I would like to answer this question with a Rob Halford quote: A good song is a good song and will remain a good song, no matter how you treat it. And that’s it! The Heavy Metal versions of songs like ‚I’m Still Standing‘, ‚Hot Stuff‘ or ‚You Keep Me Hanging On’ are really well done. Moreover, ‚Tokyo‘, ‚Shadow On The Wall‘ and ‚Space Lord‚ sound very unique, although I don’t understand why the band avoided the famous f-word in the latter song. Two of the covers (‚Because The Night‘ and ‚Proud Mary‘), however, do not work so well – still an acceptable rate!
