Oz – Transition State

Label: AFM Records  Playing Time: 59 Min  Release 20th October 2017

Oz fromFinland already have quite a long history. The band was founded back in 1977 (!), but it had a break for several years in between. In 2011 the band was back at full force with the album “Burning Leather”. Afterwards six more years went by until now the new album “Transition State” is being released.

If you remember the great experience of the band, it s no wonder that this album sounds really mature and not like the work of a newcomer. Maybe there is too much Old School: “Transition State” sounds a lot like a mixture of Accept (Riffs), AC/DC (Groove) and Hammerfall (Vocals), so all in all a bit dusty. Only a few of the songs are above average: ‘Bone Crusher’, ‘Drag You To Hell’, ‘In A Shadow Of A Shotgun’ and ‘The Mountain’ are more or less pretty good. The rest is absolutely average with no real highlight. Moreover, there are also two stinkers: ‘Whore Of Babylon’ and ‘The Witch’. So all in all “Transition State” is not a hot album, but rather lukewarm. Not too bad, but definitely also not that good.
