Tankard – One Foot In The Grave

Label: Nuclear Blast   Playing Time: 49 Min  Release: 2nd May 2017

Tankard, who belong to the Thrash Teutonic 4 with Kreator, Sodom and Destruction, have been releasing albums frequently since 1986. “One Foot In The Grave” is already album no 17. A huge number, especially when you remember the fact that all of the bandmates still have their normal day jobs.

In the history of Tankard, experiments are rare and that’s how it shall remain. “One Foot In The Grave” is pure Thrash Metal just like you expect it from Tankard. That means 10 times the equivalent of a full punch in the face. The riffs are played so fast that you cannot hear any details and therefore they sound similar. Moreover, most songs are written for one guitar only which makes the songs a bit one-dimensional. Luckily, the choruses make the songs quite catchy. All in all you will find a few very good (‘Pay To Pray` and `Syrian Nightmare’) and good songs (‘Arena Of True Lies’ and the title track), but most of them are average. However, there is no bad song to be found. Short and sweet: Tankard as always: solid but not spectacular.
