The Clean Rebels, The Spyro, Nuke Mutants
Golden Classics Cafe & Bar, Helsinki, February 11, 2017
The Clean Rebels hosted this evening in a rustic bar not far from the city center, near the West Harbour area of Helsinki (Länsiterminaali), at the other side of the bay of Nosturi club, which might be better known among the local Rockers and Metal heads. The Golden Classics Bar features – besides a stunning view from their “terassi” – a vast collection of quite appealing vintage interior which might bring fans of Rockabilly / Mods era and chrome aficionados to tears. You can even chill on a legendary lip-couch replica. The Rebels’ three cover sets, starting with an acoustic duo performance, fit the surrounding perfectly with vintage hits, including Beatles, Hendrix, Doors, Deep Purple or The Police. And according to the frequented dance floor, the audience totally enjoyed all three sets.

The Spyro from Helsinki was the first special guest, providing a music mix using elements of Ska, Punk, U2, The Cult, and even a touch of HIM when it comes to melancholy. Yet nothing melancholic about the performance, The Spyro totally rocked the place and impressed even the 4-legged audience member. Unfortunately it was only towards the end of the set when more people arrived at the club, but in any case they left a good impression.

Not sure whether Psychobilly or Speed Metal – anyway, Nuke Mutants seemed to be a 5 piece wrecking commando, intending to take the roof down. Highly energetic, or as the Helsinki based act puts it: “Young, raw & filthy loud”. Now I understand why Rock’n’Roll was something our grandparents were not allowed to listen to … Summing up, great entertainment in an awesome venue, will surely be back for more!
