End of Daze – Ascension
Playing Time: 34 min Release: 14th September 2015
End of Daze are a young and aspiring band from England. Although the “product insert” names Iron Maiden as an influence, the guys do not sound like anything else from Great Britain. Their melodic Death/Thrash Metal reminds me more of the Jurassic period of Swedish Death Metal, especially of early In Flames and Dark Tranquility. Like the two bands mentioned, End of Daze preferably combine nice melodies with hard music. The opener ‘Waiting’, the following ‘My Awakening’, featuring a nice duet with Elona Holt, and ‘Whispers’ are good examples. But like early albums from their Swedish role models, there are shortcomings. And they can be found in the choruses, which could be more in the spotlight and be catchier, too. But these points of criticism do not alter the fact that End of Daze released a well-done first album.
