Deadpool & Wolverine

July 24, 2024, PG-16, 2 h 7 min

SPOILER-FREE!
The plot: A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life with his days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. But when his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctant Wolverine…
Basically I can keep it short – the third is the best one! Yes, just like Deadpool and Deadpool 2, there is anarchy,  chaos, dark humour and a display of brainless blood&guts-splatter-violence, choreographed to an excellent soundtrack, but there is so much more brilliant stuff in this movie. Naturally first of all, Hugh Jackman returning to his iconic X-Men role in Deadpool & Wolverine (or Deadpool 3) – what else to say about that, simply awesome and you can feel the chemistry between those 2 protagonists.

Then there’s the TVA multiverse setting from the popular Loki series, which hosts the – traditionally British – adversaries: Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen, both top-actors known from excellent series  (A Murder at the End of the World, Succession). Then all those gags and references in such abundance, it will surely keep super comic book / movie nerds occupied for weeks and months. (The iconic full-length Marvel hero intro, appearing for the first time in a Deadpool movie, is only the first.) Then the fact that – despite all those hilarious absurdities – the plot holds up and keeps the story rolling smoothly, there’s nothing to complain about.

And more to come, all those cameos – which I shall not reveal here – just let me tell you that even the reserved Finnish audience displayed very strong reactions, not just me… and there was loud and ample laughter all the time – which is also quite rare in a Finnish movie theater.

Moreover, there’s a 4-legged scene-stealer with the Alligator-Loki or even Grogu potential, definitely a future fan favorite and merchandise top seller. And and and…

Summing up, one of those movies that seem too short – even after the Marvel-post credit scene, one of those you need to watch multiple times, in order to enjoy every detail, or learn iconic dialogue by heart. Absolutely brilliant entertainment on Monty Python quality level. 10/10 !
