Kissin‘ Black – Dresscode: Black
Label: Notte Nera Records VÖ 22.02.2019
After their successful EP „Ever Enough?“ 2012 and their debut „Heart over Head“ 2014 this Italo-Swiss band presents their second Full-Length-Album, produced by G. Mastrogiacomo & Rob Viso in Luzern (u.a. Rival Kings and Philipp Fankhauser) and mastered by Chris Harms (Lord oft he Lost) & Benjamin Lawrenz in Hamburg. “Dresscode: Black” has reached Swiss album charts Top-10 in the meantime. And I can tell you why. First, there is this wonderful dark voice of founder & band mastermind Giu Mastrogiacomo. Then this wide range of grooving song material, mainly featuring acoustic instruments and preferring the Rock genre. Yet you hardly ever find such a variety of expression. The singer uses his multi-lingual talent for English, French and Italian lyrics, telling personal stories. Guitarist and co-founder Andy Dormann and drummer Marcel Spiga have been part of the journey for 20 years.
The variety of styles includes spoken-word (the sinister Oh Girl French Girl feat. Florian Grey), a Chanson incl. Akkordeon (Jolie) and Goth-Pop to Metal influences and Death Growls (the Doors cover Riders feat. Anna Murphy). In between you’ll find songs channeling The 69 Eyes (Dark Again, Address Unknown) or HIM (Flirting with Hope) and sometimes even Bon Jovi (Gravemen). The songs mentioned I see as the hit songs of the album, together with the fantastic title song (see video below). I would have wanted more of that rough kind on the album, but that’s just me and my taste … The next big thing aus der Schweiz? Quite possible.
And you can still see the band on tour:
