Superman

Finally got to see this one, and in the meantime it should be widely known that Superman 2025 – here seen with the ultimate break-out star, dog Krypto – is absolutely brilliant, a 10/10.
You’ll leave the theater with a smile on your face. An overall flawless cast, excellent plot with writer/director James Gunn’s typical tongue-in-cheek attitude – pure entertainment for the whole family and with a good amount of depth,.

While Christopher Reeve remains the undisputed legend, we probably witness a future legend being born here. David Corenswet is absolutely adorable and so very convincing in the title role.
Therefore if you haven’t watched it yet on the big screen, please do so.

Haters gonna hate

As a detailed review this late would be a waste of time, I rather list a couple of theories why the extreme-right, red-cap-white-supremacy „anti-woke“ incel trolls – or let’s call them what they really are: Fascists and Nazis – hate this movie so much and keep flooding SoMe with their foaming-at-the-mouth posts and/or low ratings. *

1. It’s never about disliking a certain movie and legitimately expressing criticism. Those people actually hate the hero. Yes, indeed: They explicitly express their particular hatred of the „woke“ DC character in this movie! Hating SUPERMAN pretty much says everything about them already….

2. So basically those people ARE Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), minus his wealth. In the movie, this egomaniac misogynistic super-rich murderous psychopath attempts to become a king. It should not be a big problem to identify several corresponding people in real life – who are coincidentally exactly who those „critics“ worship. Basically they would be Luthor’s eager & willing hench-people… therefore watching how they lose to an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT, a literal ALIEN, surely makes them angry.

3. And now their main „criticism“: How could Superman be so „woke“, oh no, those Hollywood DEI elitists ruined it! It seems they know nothing about this DC character, or worse, they want to convince everybody else that coming from planet Krypton, being an alien, arriving „illegally“ via spaceship as a baby, raised by a human couple & being kind, protecting the weak and saving the planet from all kinds of threats was a brand new „DEI woke“ thing. Spoiler alert – it’s not.

4. Superman has been „woke“ ever since his creation in the 1930s by writer Jerry Siegel and illustrator Joe Shuster – as an alien from planet Krypton, immigrant or asylum seeker, „illegal“ because falling from the sky instead of application via official paperwork, or in today’s terms „a Dreamer baby“, who uses his special powers for the good of human kind.
When even a former TV Superman actor !!! publicly disputes those facts, they must be living in a state of denial or delusion. Or in case of this actor, dementia? There are plenty of video clips on the net showing him in scenes dealing with the very aforementioned issues.

5. Judging from all the outrage, it seems for them „woke“ equals friendliness, integrity, respect, acceptance, inclusion; being kind, positive, understanding and helpful to everybody, be it immigrants, aliens, “monster” animals and any other living creature. If in the eyes of those people this all is BAD – well, imagine their „anti-woke“ world they obviously preferred. They would have enjoyed being the staff in a Nazi death camp!

6. What else is „too woke“? Maybe an alien defining and claiming humanity for himself and echoing the „love your neighbour, be kind to every living entity“ teachings of eg. Buddha, Jesus etc. Funny that often it’s the very same „critics“ who so vehemently pretend to be such devout „Christians“ …

7. Maybe it is depicting an adult advanced relationship of equal partners and how they are resolving conflicts. Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is this strong intelligent independent woman, being good in her job, standing up for herself and holding her ground even against someone with superpowers. And instead of being „damsel in distress“, it’s her saving Superman. Too much for deluded self-identified „Alpha males“?

8. And finally – Superman likes Punk Rock! Explicitly the fictitious Punk band The Mighty Crabjoys. That must definitely be way „too woke“!!

* Those “critics” attacked the movie even before its release and are now trying to claim that it’s a flop. However, both critical response – eg. 84% Rotten Tomatoes, 8/10 IGN – and box office prove them wrong: Superman’ earned $6.6 million, the biggest second Wednesday ever for a Superman film beating the $4.1 million record of 2013’s ‘Man of Steel. The DCU film currently holds a $259 million US box office and according to Wikipedia, made $433 million worldwide by July 23, 2025, or in less than 2 weeks after release. It’s therefore on the best way to indeed „make over $700 million to be considered a success“.
