Today Is The Day: Go with the flow

Formed 1992 in Nashville, Tennessee, Today Is the Day has never stopped making noise rock and experimental metal since then, combining noise music, avant-garde metal, grindcore, post-hardcore, alternative rock and other genres. In autumn 2025, they released their 12th studio album „Never Give In“ and spent the rest of the year touring. Co-founder and band mastermind Steve Austin gives us a quick update:

Could you tell us about recording the new album “Never Give In”? Is this a concept album?
Never Give In is a diary from the COVID days. I wanted to create a journey from beginning to infinite. It was written and recorded 2020-2023 and mixed in 2025.

Any favorite bands, Steve?
Thetan and Gridfailure

Why does the band combine many sounds to create its music, even psychedelic? Was this a band decision?
I just let the music flow and go where it wants to. To keep it pure and real. Life is disorienting, and music can reflect that.

What was the experience like recording your first album, many years ago?
It was a wondrous time. Being a punk rock metal kid from Tennessee and recording an album at the label that discovered Helemt was huge for me.

Why did you want to record “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath“?
Because I connect with the words very much and the vocal sound.

What has the reception been for the new album since its release?
People seem to dig it!

What brought you back into the studio to record?
I’ll always be making records until the day I die.

Will Today is the Day be playing any more live shows in 2026?
Heading out for USA tour May8th-May 31st. Then off to Poland for a festival.

What are live shows like for the band?
Cathartic, spiritual awakening and destruction

Any more plans and projects?
Working on my new “Marked Cards and Loaded Dice” Solo album set for release May 8th.
