Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
2023, PG-12, 2 h 20 min
SPOILER-FREE
I can keep this one short – if you enjoyed the first part of this trilogy (Spider-Man: A New Universe / Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018), you will surely like this new adventure around Spiderman Miles Morales. The quality in story telling and artistic delivery has not diminished, you will be kept excited throughout the almost 2,5 hours. Surprises, twists and turns, re-connecting with old aquaintances (Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy – unfortunately, not so much with Spider-Pig*) and some new friends and foes… There are several hilarious Easter Eggs… And I fell in love with a new hero, pretty obvious which one and why (hint: he carries a guitar).
(Btw, no need to stick to the very end, there’s no post credit thingy…)
And I have to say that this is the second multiverse adventure (after Spidey-Verse 1) truly to be appreciated – as Marvel has utterly failed to come up with something equally exciting and compelling on the movie screen. Notable exceptions are the „What If“ animation and the LOKI series for the smaller screens, on Disney+.
Therefore, go and watch the Spider-Verse, and on the big screen!!
*my favorite – anybody else noticing in the first movie’s montage sequence only after several re-watches, that it was the SPIDER mutating into the super hero after biting a radioactive pig? Hilarious!!
