Siena Root – Revelation

Atomic Fire Records    Release Date: February 24,  2023

Siena Root have been around for 2 decades and should already be known to many through their active touring, at least by name. The Swedes have specialised in rock music from the 60s-70s, with influences from Blues, Psychedelic and (acoustic) Country-Pop. With Revelation they present their 8th studio album, which covers all the genres mentioned.

Psychedelic / Retro Rock has this immediate-groove attitude anyway and the Swedes deliver quality as well. There is also a lot of experimentation: Oriental meets Redneck Bayou, for example, with Madhukauns. Further highlights: No Peace, Leaving the City and Keeper of the Flame, a great bluesy album wrap-up where the voice reminds me of Alicia Keys. Well, one or two songs don’t really capture my attention, but otherwise it’s a successful album.

It should also be mentioned that you won’t find much of effects or studio magic here – it sounds as if you had the band playing live in your living room. In fact Siena Root  used as usual solely analogue equipment. Only for the final transfer they were forced to go digital but not for the vinyl version. Thus vinyl is especially recommended when purchasing the album, in order to experience Revelation as such.

SIENA ROOT are:
Zubaida Solid | vocals, keys
Johan Borgström | guitars
Sam Riffer | bass
Love Forsberg | drums
