Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

2023, PG-13, 2h 5m – SPOILER-FREE!

In the case of Ant-Man, it wasn’t love at first sight – rather second or even third, only after I saw the first film on TV and realized my grave mistake: Ignoring the superhero who, thanks to a special suit and the so-called Pym particles, can shrink or grow and communicate with ants… Now I enjoy the most “normal” of all Avengers, the Average-Joe from next door, neither filthy rich nor super-intelligent nor endowed with unusual powers. Well, he’s a talented burglar, ex-con who stole the Ant-Man suit and skilfully duped the FBI … but otherwise, no different from you or me 🙂 With a likeable actor like Paul Rudd you’ll surely enjoy spending 2 hours at the movies anyway.

About the content: Ant-Man Scott Lang and Wasp Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym, Cassie Lang and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of space and time.

Basically, this MCU blockbuster offers the highest degree of depth – because you can hardly go deeper than a Quantum Realm, in terms of matter. Obviously the creators of unusual creatures could really let off steam, an overall whacky trip – so actually the film we expected Dr. Strange 2 to be.

The visuals alone make this film worth watching, while the high-quality cast and the thrilling story add to the entertainment. Although sometimes you wonder what the design department people were smoking – which includes classic comic book characters that appear here… Jonathan Majors plays once again a charismatic-spooky Kang, whom we already met in the Loki TV series. The seniors in the team – Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas – probably never thought they’d get to make action movies again and obviously enjoy it a lot. I hope it means a long-deserved comeback for Michelle, what a great actress!

Conclusion: Absolutely worth watching and very entertaining, I only missed the brilliant trio Michael Peña, T.I. and David Dastmalchian from the first two films for a 100% pleasure. And yes, as always with MCU, please stay until the very end 🙂
