U.D.O. – Live in Bulgaria

Label: AFM Records  Playing Time: 139 Min  Release: 19th March 2021

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year the music world stood still. Cancelled shows, infected musicians and shifted album releases. It turned out that many things we thought are self-evident are actually not. Much more surprising is a live album that will be released these days, an album that is not coming out of the vault, but which was recorded in the darkest period in music history. (Udo Dirkschneider talks about his “Fuck 2020” experience HERE.)

„Live in Bulgaria“ is the 4th live album of the band in the past 10 years. So does the world need another one? It can be seen critically because many songs on it were already featured on previous releases. However, immediately it gives us what we are all longing for: a feeling of normality. A glimpse of light in a worldwide pandemic.

Enough of the pathos. Let me finally speak about the more profane facts: Sound and visuals of the DVD are above suspicion. The first element features a fabulous performance of the band, complemented by the enthusiastic reaction of a hungry audience. The second element is supported by the beautiful setting of the Plovdiv amphitheater. Therefore, all in all, „Live in Bulgaria” is more than just a nostalgia trip. It is a convincing live album that has something to offer for every Heavy Metal fan out there.
