Nicumo – Inertia

Inverse Records    release: 27.3.2020

“Inertia” is the third album of Finnish Melancholic Metallers Nicumo and continues naturally from where the second album “Storms Arise” left. It offers a nice mixture of rough and gentle, an intense atmosphere with the typical Finnish melancholic touch. The catchy song material shows influences from Alternative Rock, Post-Metal, Rock-Pop (Tree of Life) and Progressive Metal. Singer Hannu Karppinen – he also designed the cover artwork – impresses with velvet timbre a la Poets of the Fall, but he can also go tough. Which means, you’ll get everything from growls to Pop-style chorus, and sometimes even in one and the same song (“Who you Are”) … When listening to “Time Won’t Heal” and “Black Wolf” I somehow have to think of HIM in terms of song writing and voice, although Hannu’s is not as deep as Ville Valo’s. But this impression lasts only to the point until it gets much tougher again …

The album was recorded and mixed at Joshua Music studios during 2019 by Olli Tainio – who has worked in post metal/rock scene with bands like Callisto and Blind Architect – and mastered by Svante Forsbäck (e.g. Amorphis, Volbeat, Apocalyptica, Rammstein). Which means, solid Finnish quality and an album that’s indeed recommendable.
