Conception – State of Deception

Label: Conception Sound Factory     Release Date: 03.04.2020

They are back, after over two decades: Conception, the band of Ex-Kamelot singer Roy Khan. 1997 they released their last record “Flow” at Noise Records, after that the band dissolved and Khan started his career with Kamelot as the singer until 2011.

In the past years, I have often asked myself what happened to this talented singer, what is he doing nowadays and whether he might one day come back to the Metal Scene. I hoped for it and now it has happened, the VOICE Roy Khan delivers a new phenomenal vocal work at its best. This record was sponsored by fans via crowdfunding and is therefore also made for them. You even could buy a day with the band to support this project.

Conception stay true to their Progressive style. And yes, it won’t be an easy album to listen to, at least at the beginning. As always in Prog, it also contains chaotic elements, as for example in “No Rewind”. But then again you can find crystal clear Elements such as the ballad “The Mansion” which was made together with Amaranthe singer Elize Ryd and delivers a beautiful duet, where she only plays a small role.  “By the Blues” is more easy listening as well, so that you get a good mix between difficult and easy songs, which brings a lot of atmosphere to the album. The compositions and production have been masterminded by Tore Østby, a founding member, who did once again a great job.

Conception created once again an album where you can just close your eyes to enjoy the music as well as the imagery in front of your inner eye. Stimulating for the imagination, creative and a vocal-wise a special treat.

PS: The planned tour for early 2020 had to be postponed to 2021.
