QNTAL – VIII – Nachtblume

Qntal are definitely pioneers of their own particular genre with their previously unheard, bold mixture of medieval melodies and Electro back in 1992. Such a mix might no longer feel exotic in the Goth scene, and their music appeals to classic, Pop, Rock and even Metal fans alike. Moreover, in my opinion this is one of the rare acts you don’t need to think twice whether to get the album or not, because the band name guarantees high quality. Fans had to wait for four years for another output, because singer Syrah and sound wizard Michael Popp have other projects, e.g. Estampie, and played classical concerts in churches for the better part of a year.

“Qntal VIII-Nachtblume” continues their own particular musical interpretation of classical literature, e.g. Lord Byron’s poetry, or the transformation of traditional songs into elegiac harmonies and oscillating electronics, (e.g. O Fortuna from the Carmina Burana cycle), dominated by an enchanting female voice. “There’s simply no better way of describing this unique project than that of Qntal being the German answer to Dead Can Dance”, says the band info, and I might add that when you like Estampie and/or Electro-Goth, you can grab this one, too.
