Hellvetica – Against the Odds

Label: unsigned Release: September 2017

Six years after their first long player, “Your Last Breath”, Hellvetica release their second album titled “Against the Odds”. Either the band has gotten even more brutal since then or I have just gotten older – or even both is true. But WOW, this record kicks ass from the first second on. If you’re into brutal Thrash Metal/Hardcore, you’ve definitely come to the right place. What I have always liked about this Swiss band is the variety of Roman Wettstein’s vocals. Once again, he did an awesome job and with his strong and versatile growls, managed to give each songs something special. Since the last album, Wettstein has been supported by some new band members: on drums Christan Traussnig, on bass Sonja Traussnig, on guitar Federic Salazar and, of course, by Hellvetica founding member and guitarist, Jon Schnider.

I am always surprised how different Hellvetica songs sound. I can’t deny that I do prefer the more melodic parts but I am still deeply convinced that they are one of the best “newcomer” bands in Switzerland. They can easily keep up with the big names in the international Thrash Metal scene. The big breakthrough has, however, yet to come. But they already tour more, also abroad, and, hopefully, they can do that a bit more often next year. Because this band is absolutely convincing on stage – party and moshpits are guaranteed!

On their new record, I especially like “Face Palm” and “Pit Master”. Just make sure you listen to the whole album – it is surely worth it and I can assure you, you won’t find another Swiss Thrash Metal band of this calibre. Besides the regular songs, there’s also a karaoke version of “Wake up the Dead” on the album – this alone justifies the purchase.
