Kreator – Gods of Violence

Label: Nuclear Blast    Playing Time: 52 Min     Release 27th January 2017

The Kreator only appears when there is something to say. Which was once announced by band mastermind Mille Petrozza. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have released one killer album after the other in recent years because there is a lot of grievance to decry…

Just the names of the songs say everything: Titles like ‘World War Now’, ‘Satan is Real’ and ‘Totalitarian Terror’ do not deal with unicorns and dragons, but with the madness that rules the world. Therefore it is no wonder that all the songs are dominated by a high level of aggression. High-speed riff attacks and blast beats. Full power! But the counterweight – and that is the difference between Kreator and most other Thrash bands – are those absolutely great lead guitars, which are often melodic and sometimes even sound like hymns. Just listen to the title tracks! What Sami Yli-Sirniö does here drives me crazy!

So Kreator managed to write another great album. Songs like the ones mentioned and also ‘Hail to the Hordes’ and ‘Fallen Brother’ are very well-done. They are as strong as the stuff on “Phantom Antichrist”. In addition, four more tracks would be highlights on every other Thrash band’s album. However, in this context of awesomeness they are a bit weaker than the ones mentioned. So in the year 2017, Kreator miss the top ranking, which was well deserved in 2013. But it was tight.
