Motor Sister: Live & loud Partysound

A new super group emerged in the US, featuring vocalist/guitarist Jim Wilson, vocalist Pearl Aday and members of Anthrax, namely guitarist Scott Ian, bassist Joey Vera, and drummer John Tempesta. The band called itself Motor Sister after the Mother Superior song “Little Motor Sister”. They recently gave their stage debut, and their first album RIDE, produced by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther) will be released by March 10, 2015 via Metal Blade. But let´s simply have Jim Wilson tell us more …

Could you tell us, Jim, how Motor Sister got together?
We were originally formed as a one-off for Scott Ian´s 50th birthday party in Los Angeles, just for some close friends who appreciated the music of my old band Mother Superior. Scott and his wife Pearl were huge fans and Scott just wanted to bring the songs back to life with some of his friends for just one night. But when we all played together (with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Joey Vera), we realized that the sound we made together was super powerful and exciting and we vowed that night to play together again. The word got back to Metal Blade records via photographer Neil Zlozower, a friend of ours who was at the party. The label approached us to make this record exactly the way that we played it at the party – live and loud!

Who is the writer for the group – how did you work out the tracks for “RIDE”?
All of the songs on “Ride” are from the past Mother Superior catalog. I was the main songwriter. I wrote all the guitar riffs, melodies and lyrics. These are the songs that Scott picked for his birthday party. Next time around will do some new original songs.

Are you a fan of biker movies?
Easy Rider is a classic.

What inspires you to write?
Music itself inspires me to write. I listen to music all the time and I collect vinyl. I´m always thinking about melodies and lyrics, I also use walking as a way to write songs. I love to walk around the city and work on songs in my head.

Who are some of your favorite bands?
Well I love the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Elvis and Chuck Berry and AC/DC and Stevie Wonder and Free and Humble Pie and Faces and Marvin Gaye and Cheap Trick and Def Leppard and Michael Jackson and George Jones and Bob Dylan and Elton John and Bob Seger…I could go on all night!

Any new bands out there that you like?
Yes I love North Mississippi All-Stars, Haden Triplets and Motor Sister

Any live dates planned for Motor Sister?
We are doing our first show in New York City today as I write this and there are shows booked in LA and San Francisco (March 11 and 12) as well. We will do as many shows as we can. Obviously each band member has their own schedule, but whenever we can get together, we will.

Is metal or heavy metal still alive and well?
Inside everyone is a heavy metal kid. It will be here forever!
