THE LURKING FEAR – Out Of The Voiceless Grave

Century Media VÖ: Aug 11, 2017 Total playing time: 00:42:1

A full dose of Old School Swedish Death from an All-Star-Band feat. Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates / Disfear) – vocals, Jonas Stålhammar (God Macabre / Bombs Of Hades) – guitar, Fredrik Wallenberg (Skitsystem) – guitar, Andreas Axelson (Tormented / Disfear) – bass and Adrian Erlandsson (At The Gates / The Haunted) – drums. As the band name suggests, they have chosen Lovecraft as their main topic, and after a sinister intro you experience the expected punch in the face. Brutal riffs mixed with more grooving elements dominate the album. Only Upon Black Winds offers a bit of relief with some calmer, yet weird parts, Teeth Of The Dark Plains and The Cold Jaws Of Death offer some Lovecraft literature in spoken parts. In my opinion Winged Death and Beneath Menacing Sands are highlights because of this groove and mean guitars. Tentacles Of Blackened Horror is one of the most brutal tracks of the album, and I cannot help myself thinking of Slayer’s bloody rain…

When it comes to translating Lovecraft into music, in my opinion Mekong Delta’s „The Music of Erich Zann“ album has not been topped (yet). Nevertheless, The Lurking Fear will definitely please Old School Fans (Autopsy, Death, Morbid Angel, Possessed).
