Mors Principium Est – Seven

Label: AFM Records  Playing Time: 49 Min  Release: 23rd October 2020

Basically Mors Principium Est, a Finish Heavy Metal band, has been active for around 20 years and has already released six albums. I say “basically” because, after several line up changes and departures of band members, the line-up consists now of vocalist Ville Viljanen (Finland), the only founding member left, and Andy Gillion (England). While Ville is responsible for the lyrical concept, Andy composes the music. On future tours they are planning to work with guest musicians (for example on their upcoming 2021 European tour with Wolfheart).

In terms of music, the band plays melodic Death Metal. While there are some very famous bands like In Flames and Arch Enemy in this genre, Mors Principium Est do not have much in common with them. This is a matter of the fact that the band uses not only guitars, but also orchestration for their songs. However, in comparison with the bands mentioned, the songs of Mors Principium Est are not really catchy. Only the opener ‘A Day For Redemption’, ‘March To War’ and ‘Master Of The Dead’ are exceptions and pretty catchy songs on this album. All in all, the choruses could be optimized in terms of ear candy quality.
