Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

2023     PG-13 (or PG-12, check our local movie theater)  2h 30m

SPOILER-FREE!
Well, all those who saw Marvel & MCU on their death beds might reconsider their impression after watching this movie. The Guardians trilogy might be the best one in the entire franchise – no weak movie, no sloppy treatment of central characters and no boring story lines – there are always surprises and twists.

Every adult who, knowing perfectly well it’s just a CGI version of a plant-based fictious character, sill burst into tears during the “we are Groot” scene of part 1, should be prepared for part 3 and bring a whole box of tissues. Fans who always liked Rocket in particular will suffer particularly… let’s put it like this, all those who haven’t been animal rights activists before will definitely change their minds during this movie – WHICH IS GOOD. Have I mentioned bringing plenty of tissues already?

The plot:
Rocket’s mysterious past is finally revealed, but not in a good way. Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful. Moreover, there’s this weird Adam Warlock messing things up…

We can only congratulate director and writer James Gunn for creating a trilogy which will remain relevant and great to watch, and watch again, in 20 years – definitely future classics. Totally bonkers stories and scenes, starring weird and everything-but perfect characters – which makes them so adorable and relatable in first place. The third movie might be pulling the hardest on our heart strings, breaking our hearts several times with maybe the most serious and realistic scenarios so far, but then still manages to put the pieces together again. A truly remarkable rollercoaster of emotions, heartbreaking, heartwarming, laughably absurd but still relevant, with one of the best soundtracks ever. What more does excellent entertainment require?

PS: Perhaps you should watch the – hilarious – Holiday Special before watching this movie for the background info, and yes, you should stay until the VERY end.
