The Bar Stool Preachers – Grazie Governo

Label: Rev Distribution  Playing Time: 48 Min  Release: 24th August 2018

The Bar Stool Preachers, also named The Preachers, are a Punk band from Brighton (UK). The first release of the band was in 2016, now it’s their 2nd strike “Grazie Governo”.

The album opens with the title track which sounds quite unique. Punk elements are joining with some acoustic guitars. This combination gives the song a Singer / Songwriter touch. Anyhow, it fits to the barstool image. Just add a catchy chorus that even drunk guys can shout and the result is a perfect opener. The following ‘8.6 Days’ works in a similar way but it is the last track offering acoustic guitars. All the other songs are dominated by electric guitars. So The Preachers give up their unique feature and become more and more like a usual (Pop) Punk band. Due to the vocals you are reminded of  bands like Green Day and Blink-182. Despite most of the lyrics are more or less critical, the overall mood is a happy one (perhaps with the exception of ‘Cry Wolf’ and ‘Warchief’). Only the last song, which is actually a bonus track, offers again the vibe of the beginning of this album. A little bit Punk, a little bit Singer / Songwriter, a little bit of happiness.

Due to the fact that The Preachers give up their unique feature so early, they lose recognition value and also their musical relevance. Or to say it in another way: Song three to twelve might have been from any other Pop Punk band on this planet. All in all, “Grazie Governo” is still a suitable soundtrack for your next barbecue party.
